In the ever-changing landscape of wearable tech, Ray-Ban, a brand renowned for its timeless style and innovation, has ventured boldly into the future with the debut of their Meta Smart Glasses. Originally established in 1936 by Bausch & Lomb, an American Canadian eye health products company based in Vaughan, Ontario, Canada, Ray-Ban has since become a symbol of luxury eyewear. The brand's journey took a new turn when Luxottica Group, an Italian eyewear conglomerate, acquired it for a reported $640 million. Now, with the Meta Smart Glasses, Ray-Ban seeks to revolutionize our perception of the world by seamlessly combining iconic design with state-of-the-art technology.


In a move to cater to a younger audience, Luxottica Group introduced Ray-Ban Youth, a collection of prescription eyewear designed specifically for children aged eight to twelve. Drawing inspiration from popular adult Ray-Ban styles, these hypoallergenic titanium frames offer a mix of neutral and vibrant color options, along with robust flex hinges for durability.


Smart Features:



The standout characteristic of the Meta Smart Glasses lies in their augmented reality (AR) capabilities. Fueled by advanced technology, these glasses offer users a hands-free and fully immersive AR experience. Whether it's navigating through city streets, receiving notifications, or engaging with digital information, users can seamlessly accomplish tasks without the need to divert their attention to their smartphones.


Moreover, the Meta glasses effortlessly sync with your phone just like any standard Bluetooth headphones, allowing you to utilize your preferred music streaming or podcast app. The speakers' directional design effectively minimizes audio bleed, resulting in a more captivating and immersive audio experience. The name "Ray-Ban" was coined in reference to these glasses' capability to restrict the entry of either ultra-violet or infra-red rays of light.


Adding to their versatility, the glasses come equipped with a built-in camera. As is the case with other wearable technologies featuring cameras, Ray-Ban Stories, in particular, have faced scrutiny due to concerns about privacy issues and the potential for misuse.

Ray-Ban Meta Camera Quality


The standout feature of the Ray-Ban Meta is its integrated 12MP camera, serving as the focal point of its capabilities. This camera is capable of recording video at 1080p resolution, and both photos and videos are framed vertically, ensuring seamless integration into your social media feed.

In addition, the right arm of the frame serves as a touchpad for media controls, allowing for convenient adjustments such as volume control, play/pause functions, and even the ability to answer or end the calls with an easiest double tap. 

Notably, the call quality is commendable, delivering clear audio reception even in challenging outdoor and noisy environments.

However, the Meta Smart Glasses do have a drawback in terms of battery life. They last approximately two-and-a-half hours on a full charge during continuous audio usage. This necessitates frequent recharging using the provided case, which takes slightly over an hour to reach a full charge through a USB-C port.

The Meta Smart Glasses have the capability to record up to one minute of video at a time. A noticeable white light appears on the periphery of your vision, indicating that recording is in progress. This light blinks during the final seconds of the allotted 60-second timeframe. If needed, users can press the capture button once to manually stop recording before reaching the 60-second cutoff.

The lens itself is positioned in the upper left corner, facing outward. The upper right corner appears to house a second lens, but it functions solely as a notification LED. In contrast, the first-generation Ray-Ban Stories featured a 5MP lens in each corner.

While recording, the notification LED blinks, serving as an indicator to those in your vicinity that the camera is active. It's worth noting that the LED cannot be turned off, ensuring transparency and preventing secret recordings. Although the LED doesn't entirely address the issue of privacy in public spaces, its presence makes it less likely for strangers to be unaware of the recording activity, as the small light may take some time to be noticed.


User Interface:

Ray-Ban has placed a strong emphasis on making the user interface of the Meta Smart Glasses simple and easy to use. The controls are intuitive, enabling users to effortlessly navigate through various features and enhancing the overall user experience. Whether it's tweaking settings or engaging with AR applications, the interface is crafted to be user-friendly, ensuring that the technology is easily accessible to a wide range of users.
